"Lesson One: Never breathe in the chaos because you will choke on humanity’s lack of being humane They will turn you into a tragedy that is only written down to sell books and not to save hope They will pull woes to the surface of your chest and convince you that you’re only living to die They will use your insecurities to cut ankle and make you believe you ain’t got nothin… Nothin to stand on They will write the chaos on your skin like it’s your identity And not just a part of your wholeness And if you let them, they will brand you hopeless So don’t you let them" #diaryofadayumpoet

"And we are so much more than music We are the motion behind the melody before the soul breaks and spills into notes So it comes as no surprise that we are noted That we are noticed in the God designed melanin of our skin That we are crowned Blues in the rhythm of a world who has forgotten how to feel beyond a computer screen So we scream in the way we walk like pain has never weighed heavy on our souls Like these concrete jungles have never eaten us alive in front of our mothers And turned some of our wayward fathers into crime scenes that Justice doesn't seem to see But still, we stand strong like miracles We climb mountains in our sleep that only bring us to more mountains But where most would give up, we plant mustard seeds of faith on our way up And make foot stools out of any tragedy that's trying to pull us down From slavery all the way to the civil wars among our brothers, We still know that we are so much more than a "Cash Money" click Or the "baddest bitch" We are miracles... From the crown of our heads to the soulful beat in our feet The fact that we still grow, breathe and exist is an act of defiance And for every stereotype others try to hang around our necks, we produce a walking contradiction... For every Lil Wayne, we give you a Malcolm X For every Nicki Minaj, we give you a Sunni Patterson For every Zane, we give you a phenomenal Maya Angelou A Toni Morrison... And some people still have the audacity to think our days of strength are over But no...because we are miracles” #diaryofadayumpoet They wonder how she does it How she lives dreams knowing there will be no happy ending How she smiles back knowing their teeth are merely dams that hold in their speculations See, some days, it crawls up my sanity… bending the bough of my mind at the roots Come… Come closer to me and feel what breaks Feel what shatters here while it consumes Feelings transformed to fumes that choke life from limbs rip breath from lips and collapsed lungs… Come… Swallow the death here Taste its marrow and fiction I wonder if Death can keep its promises If it can really embrace all of me Or does it have the human trait of imperfection? Will it forget to hold me forever after this courtship is over? After it knows every cell attached to this frame? After the climax of my end, will it continue to revel in these walls? No one will ever know how I wish this were true How I long to keep Death here How I wish this tragedy could end with me, and never touch another life This would be my happy ending But who ever said life would be a fairytale anyway? -Melanie YeYo Carter- #diaryofadayumpoet SOMETHING NEW...YEA... #DIARYOFADAYUMPOET |
